Transcription: Any small pool of water is quickly colonised by aquatic organisms. The first to arrive are the flying insects, such as the backswimmer and pond skater. They are followed by dragonflies and damselflies looking for a place in which to lay their eggs. Visiting birds, such as ducks, may carry the eggs of snails and fish on their feet. When the fish are born, they soon become part of the food web of the pond, feeding on small larvae. insects and microscopic life. Frogs too may seek out the pond to lay their eggs, while birds such as the heron and kingfisher come to the pond to feed.
